Want to hear about a travel ban that’s truly oppressive?

One that isn’t about security or defense, but about punishing states who think differently?

Here comes California with its own particular kind of crazy.

From Daily Caller:

California has created a travel ban of its own, which prohibits its own public university students from traveling to “anti-LGBT” states.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1481811813211-1'); });

The law that went into effect Jan. 1 prohibits state-funded travel to states that are not LGBT-friendly, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

The law prevents students of the University of California and California State University from traveling to four states outlined by California attorney general Xavier Becerra, including Kansas, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee.

‘Anti-LGBT’ apparently means states that would like to have their own representatives determine their own laws and not be dictated to by the federal government.

The purpose of the travel ban is to deprive dollars from the ‘bad states’ but it also has the effect of depriving students of California publicly-funded colleges of opportunities.

The new law’s effects were felt by students at UC Davis, who planned on attending an undergraduate research conference in Tennessee. The new law prevented the students from attending because UC Davis was going to pay for them to go.

More than 100 Californians were chosen to be a part of the Council on Undergraduate Research Conference at the University of Memphis in April, but those who attend public universities will not receive funding to go.

One student, Acacia Keith, agreed with the ban. Another, Mark Rivera, said that it was the wrong approach, that California students should go and not be so insular.

UCLA’s football team is scheduled to play Memphis in September and Cal State Long Beach baseball will play North Carolina in March. After these visits, the universities will no longer be able to play games in these states.

So too bad, students, if your state wants to impose its will on other states, you have to suffer.

Aren’t travel bans fascist?

Guess that’s only when they don’t fit your political agenda…
