Of the 1,970 men and who have held a seat in the Senate, a grand total of 10 were black.

Currently, the lone black Republican senator is Tim Scott of South Carolina, who was just re-elected to a six-year term in November.

You might recall that Scott was tapped by South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley – the next probable Ambassador to the UN – to replace Jim DeMint, who parted for the Heritage Foundation.

Scott then won a special election in 2014 to fill the final two years of DeMint’s term.

Because he’s a black Republican, Scott is seen as a traitor to his race in the eyes of progressives the country over.
