As a current resident of Russia who leaked classified National Security Agency information, there was no more interested observer of the testimony from the director of the the National Security Agency [NSA] about Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election than Ed Snowden.

As reported by The Daily Caller, Snowden picked up from the testimony that what the directors were not saying may be as significant as what they did say.

Snowden tweeted as follows about the testimony:

As Snowden points out, the NSA director was not forthcoming in discussing USPs (U.S. persons) who may find their personal communications recorded and stored by the NSA in the agency’s effort to gather data on foreign persons.

The significance of the observation lies in the ability of others to “unmask” – or reveal – the identity of Americans who are surveilled.

Such unmasking can be very damaging to Americans, as it was to Gen. Michael Flynn.

A former National Security Advisor, Gen. Flynn had his identity in phone conversations with a Russian ambassador unmasked by an unknown person or persons, and the conversations were subsequently illegally leaked to the public.
