This may be the weirdest thing ever that liberals have tried to called “sexist”…

Yup, that’s right. Allowances are now sexist. Mind-blowing stupidity.  Liberals try to teach their kids at a very early age that they are a victim in some way.

Whoever wrote this article clearly wasn’t thinking, and no one in their right mind would call this kind of nonsense progress.

    Not all chores are equal.

  • Skalamoosh

Here’s the real gender gap: “If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy”… Maybe this just means that little girls lie more when they are questioned about their allowances???

  • Will Buckingham

So, someone probably went through the trouble of doing actual research into patterns of allowances based on gender in American families and your respond is essentially, “Nun-uh! You’re so silly.” You truly are the party of the adults.

    • Johnny Blade

probably? what are you basing that on?

    • Jon Peterman

      probably…….isnt that an assumption?

    • Will Buckingham

I didn’t read the article, so therefore ‘probably’ however, I’m not at all confident that the people here condemning it out of hand read it either. If they have, there is no mention that there is no data, which I would think would be the main thrust of a critique. I’m merely saying that saying, ‘Says you, Libtard!’ (basically) is not a compelling retort.

      • FloridaPhil

        Says you, Libtard!

    • I actually read the article

Had you read it, you would have seen that this “scientific” study was done in Europe… Adding on to that, they didn’t ask the parents that are paying the kids and know what they are paying them to do; they are asking the kids themselves!

  • zsmorr

I wanna know what kind of parents give their kids an average allowance of $40+ for around 2 hours of work a week… I almost never had an allowance, my parents would on occasion pay me and my sister $10 each for big chores, but those were really rare.

    • Guest

The closest to an allowance I got was money for mowing the lawn when I was 9. Any other chores I had to do “for free”, because it was my as well.

  • blazz

ooooooooohhhhhh ………………the horror of it all!!!!! its b/c libs don’t really work and have nothing else to focus on but stupid stuff like this

  • Johnny Blade

Is that the way libtarded households are run? they work the girls more and pay them less?

    • Roger Smith

That is how it works in the white house. But the libtards believe they are above the law.The truly sad part is how all these idiots keep voting them into office and that includes the dead people.

  • JohnFalcigie

All I can say is LOL….LMAF

  • hermit_boy

All I can say is that my daughter babysits her siblings, and makes more for it than my son makes in mowing the lawn. It is because a date alone with my wife is worth more to me than a well cared for yard. Liberals and logic/economics/reality are like oil and water.

    • http://SCOTUS.GOV/ JusticeThomas

You’re a sexist. Why can’t the daughter mow the yard??? :)

      • Rational_Reality

Why would the daughter mow the lawn? She obviously knows where the big money is, babysitting.

        • http://SCOTUS.GOV/ JusticeThomas

It depends on the size of the lawn.

        • granny483

I used to babysit AND mow the yard!! It was called being part of the family unit…..

        • http://SCOTUS.GOV/ JusticeThomas

          Maybe she’s a dyke?

  • nkl

Boys having higher hourly wages for babysitting doesn’t surprise me the followup study needs to say how much girls think they should be paid for babysitting and how much boys think they should be paid. If girls and women want to bridge the gap they need to do it by asking for the raises individually if a company is looking for a new person they will advertise what the minimum salary will be and studies have shown that men will generally try to negotiate a higher salary or ask for raises more than women.
The statistics wouldn’t be hard to fudge for this either all you would have to do is find families that have lots of girls and few boys who pay little or no allowence and compare them to families who have lots of boys and few girls who pay higher allowances. I don’t care if allowances are equal among both genders globally I would care if both are paid equally within each family.

  • Beth

The main problem I see is that they do not state that they surveyed only households who give allowances to their children. Therefore girls doing more chores and not being paid could be the result of more girls than boys living in households where parents don’t give an allowance. Every family I’ve ever met that gives out an allowance pays the same to all children. I have a feeling their statistics are skewed.

    • Madlants

That is exactly what the survey says. According to the survey (not thinkprogress), more boys than girls get paid an allowance, period. I really doubt there are many families (even among the EVIL conservatives) where boys get paid to do chores but girls don’t. I’ve yet to meet a family where that kind of favoritism wouldn’t start a massive fight. I’m assuming that the survey just happened to interview more families that pay allowance who had boys rather than girls. What they don’t mention is that this is just one survey, which means there’s the distinct possibility that the results were a fluke.

My brothers and I worked hard on the farm and orange Grove every day with no allowance. We got paid a little for work over and above normal duties. We are all hard workers now and we appreciate the value of hard work and none of us have a self entitled attitude! I may not have liked it as a kid but now I couldn’t be more thankful!

  • Blake

In my house there is definitely a gender gap, but it has a lot more to do with who spends a ton of money on clothes and grooming and who does not. I suppose the boy makes up for some of that at the dinner table though.

  • JorgeAlberto Pardo Herrera

The closest I got to an allowance was money for mowing the lawn. Anything else I had to do “for free”, because it was my house as well.

  • http://SCOTUS.GOV/ JusticeThomas

The daughter will make up the difference in expensive feminine products between the ages of 13 and college graduation. Boys? Levi’s and a baseball glove…that’s about it.

  • Pat Floyd

My siblings and I had to work around the house, especially on Saturday mornings. Our allowance was that when we were done, we could go to the movies, hang with friends, go to the beach, etc…

  • hayluree

I’m going to develop some sort of tick from reading “liberal logic”… it hurts my brain, and I can’t even fathom how to teach my girls about the world around them.

  • BVanMan

No allowance here, just did the work because it was my share.

  • Tera Blair Kirk

I’m gonna go ahead and call this completely unfounded unproven bullshit. It’s liberals trying to indoctrinate inside your home since at school just isn’t enough for them. It’s easy to make a “sample audience” say what-ever-the-fuck you want it to.

I pay my kids equally for chores when I even ask them to do stuff for offered pay. Mostly their pay is a roof over their heads and food in the bellies!!!!!!!!!

  • KJun

As an Asian, I had to study more than Caucasian children. I demand a a social reform!!!

  • Brett

Sounds kind of like Obamas white house women make less !

  • Steffy93

Who are they blaming this on??
Maybe those liberals should give their girls more money.

  • ktm

I asked for an allowance once, I was told, “You eat here and you don’t have a job, that should be enough.”

  • Giovanni Tundo

How do we even know how accurate the study is? The amount of money a parent gives their child varies from parent to parent. The only way this can be tested to be true is if the boy and the girl are in the same house hold, are twins (so it can’t be a matter of age), and they either about the same amount of work qualitatively or quantitatively. Also, the study is just asking children how much work they did, when they could be lieing. There are way too many factors that the sociologists who conducted this study did not take into account to actually come up with that conclusion.

  • edreyows

There could be families with more boys than girls that give allowances and families with more girls than boys that don’t. I think it’s mostly bias, though.
