We all remember the IRS scandal that started when it was discovered that the agency had unfairly targeted conservative groups with audits.
Lois Lerner, the IRS Director at the time, refused to talk when she was asked about it by Congress.
She was eventually forced out but was never punished criminally.
However, the scandal hasn’t gone anywhere and the new director of the agency has been up to no good as well.
House Republicans are trying to have him impeached but a revelation on C-SPAN just revealed a shocking truth about the IRS.
They are still targeting conservatives.
As the House Judiciary Committee moves forward with the first of two hearings examining whether IRS Commissioner John Koskinen should be impeached for misconduct Tuesday, it seems the mindset that targeting conservative groups is OK has not changed one bit among some employees at the agency.
During a Washington Journal segment on C-SPAN, a self-identified IRS employee called in to tell guest Cleta Mitchell, an attorney representing targeted conservative groups, that he would continue to go after the groups she represents.
“I am a lowly clerk at the IRS, looking at your application for tax-free status,” said Bill, the caller from Elizabeth, New Jersey. “I go to your web page to see the goals of your group and one of the goals of your group is to abolish the IRS.”
“You can bet every dollar you got I’m going to go after you and target you and try and end your group and that’s just the way it is,” he continued.
On a related note, the new IRS Director John Koskinen refused to testify before Congress today.
This is a ridiculous example of big government run amok and the IRS is clearly still going after groups that have conservative political beliefs.
Hopefully, House Republicans will stand firm and make sure that Koskinen is either impeached or forced out but there isn’t a lot of reason for optimism given their dismal track record as of late.
