It is also curious how some will call for diversity in the makeup of a presidential cabinet or a corporate board, for example; but will not do so for something relatively unimportant, such as a sports team.

Would any basketball fan call for the replacement of LeBron James with a Dominican basketball player for the sake of diversity? Would any football fan call for the benching of Tom Brady for an Asian quarterback for that reason?

Not any fan who cares about the success of the Cavaliers or the Patriots, clearly.

But yet we often hear complaints that too many in the White House or in the headquarters of Amazon are too White or too male.

Katy Tur, an anchor on MSNBC Live, reminds of this with her speculation following the firing of Fox’s Bill O’Reilly.

As reported by the Daily Caller Tur wondered:

“They’ve got three White men, or they had three White men — Bill O’Reilly, Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity — in their their prime time lineup. Do you think Fox News has a responsibility to vary it up? Bring another woman in? Maybe try to bring in someone who is not a White man?”

Now, bringing in a woman or a minority to replace Bill O’Reilly may very well be an excellent move by Fox.

Certain people who are women or minorities or both like Michelle Malkin, Dana Perino, David Webb and Harris Faulkner might be a brilliant choice to replace O’Reilly on their talent alone.

And possibly their ethnicity or gender might increase Fox’s audience much the way former Houston Rockets center Yao Ming created a base of NBA fans in Asia in a way he would not have been able to if he was just another seven-foot tall Black basketball player.

However while it may or may not be wise to replace Bill O’Reilly with a minority or a woman, one wonders why Tur would think Fox had a “responsibility” to so, and to whom would Fox have such a responsibility.

It should be noted that Tun’s employers, MSNBC, has an on-air lineup that does not quite look like the lunch room at the United Nations.

Of their sixteen hosts – starting with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski at 6am ET to Brian Williams at 11pm ET – only one (Craig Melvin) is an African American.

Al Sharpton had a 6pm show on the network Monday thru Friday. Now his show PoliticsNation is hidden on Sunday mornings at 8am.

Another Black MSNBC host, Dr. Melissa Harris-Perry, essentially quit after accusing the network of trying to make her “a token, mammy, or little brown bobble head.”

Perhaps Katy Tur, who is White, has a responsibility to allow Michelle Malkin to host her show – for the sake of diversity.
