On his way out the door, President Obama took three major swipes at Israel that shocked a lot of people.
First, he let the United Nations pass a shameful resolution condemning Israel’s perfectly legal settlements.
Second, he allowed Secretary of State John Kerry to deliver an outrageously dishonest speech bashing Israel.
Then he followed that up by sending $200 million to the Palestinians.
An embarrassing display.
Here’s how Bibi Netanyahu responded in his first move since Trump took office.
From IJ Review:
In the first major action under the U.S.’ President Donald Trump, Israel is moving forward with settlements in the West Bank, in defiance of the U.N. and what amounts to the ‘Obama policy.’
As the Israeli publication Haaretz reported:
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman approved the construction of 2,500 new housing units in the West Bank on Tuesday.
According to a Defense Ministry press release, most of the units are located within settlement blocs, while some 100 of them are located in the settlement of Beit El, and others in Migron. However, a look at the planned locations shows the construction is slated for outside the settlement blocs, as well.
Netanyahu summed up the Israeli perspective on settlements: “We are building – and will continue to build.”
“We are returning to life as normal in Judea and Samaria,” the defense minister Avigdor Lieberman added.
Not playing around!
It looks like the relationship between the United States and Israel is on the fast track to being repaired.
That’s definitely a good thing.
