On Tuesday, the Washington Post dropped the story saying our intel agencies had determined that North Korea was now capable of minaturizing warheads to put on missiles.
But there was much more to the story, that the WaPo didn’t say.
From Fox News:
Tuesday’s bombshell Washington Post story that the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) has determined North Korea is capable of constructing miniaturized nuclear weapons that could be used as warheads for missiles – possibly ICBMs – left out a crucial fact: DIA actually concluded this in 2013. The Post also failed to mention that the Obama administration tried to downplay and discredit this report at the time.
Why did the Obama administration try to discredit the report or downplay it?
The DIA report represented inconvenient facts that threatened President Obama’s North Korea “strategic patience” policy — a policy to do nothing about North Korea and kick this problem down the road to the next president. Obama officials tried to downplay the DIA assessment to prevent it from being used to force the president to employ a more assertive North Korea policy.
So the Obama administration not only refused to do anything about the problem but tried to downplay, kick it down the road.
Most of all, they tried to conceal intelligence from the American people and Congress about how serious the threat was.
Trump, on the other hand, is realizing that the problem has now dropped into his lap and something must be done.
And he’s putting the full and dangerous threat out there.
Trump is getting hit by some on the left now for taking a stern tone with North Korea.
But it’s ‘strategic patience’ and doing nothing that has gotten us to where we are now.
Can we afford it anymore?
