Suddenly, Guam, which generally labors in quiet obscurity, has become the center of attention after North Korea threatened to bomb it.
Guam is a United States territory in the Pacific.
Yesterday, President Donald Trump called the Governor of the island to reassure him that they would be protected and they had nothing to worry about from North Korea.
From NY Post:
A video shows Gov. Eddie Baza Calvo laughing and joking with the president as they discuss everything from the readiness of the US military to tourism.
Trump opened the conversation by telling Calvo, “ Good morning, good morning. Great to speak with you. Good morning. I just wanted to pay my respects and we are with you 1,000. You are safe. We’re with you 1,000 percent. I just wanted to call and say hello.’’
Calvo answers, “as the governor of Guam representing the people of Guam and as an American citizen, I never felt more safe or confident than with you at the helm.
Calvo praised Trump saying, “We need a president like you.”
Calvo told Trump, “I’m just so thankful. I’m glad you’re holding the helm, Sir.’’
Trump praised the beauty of Guam and said that tourism would go up, now that people got to know how beautiful it was.
“We’re going to do a great job for you. . . All over the world they’re talking about Guam. . . Tourism is going to go up ten fold. It looks beautiful.’’
Calvo indicated that they have 95% ocupancy, which is great by hotel standards.
The conversation ended with each of the men inviting the other to visit.
