A new Netflix series that depicts Ronald Reagan as a domestic terrorist who wants to set off a nuke in America and George H.W. Bush as a buffoon who defecates in public is supposed to be “funny.” But, it is anything but.
The folks at the Media Research Center reviewed the Netflix “comedy” series Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later, which was released last week. And the bizarre series proves to be just another boring left-wing attack on conservatives and this one in the crassest terms.
The bizarre story was told in eight 30-minute episodes and, along the way, former President Reagan was depicted as a diabolical nuclear warhead thief and involved with several poop jokes for good measure. Yes. Really.
Wow, sounds stupid already.
The first clue about how stupid it is can be seen in who is playing one of the parts…
As the show opens, it is August, 1991, and Camp Firewood is up for sale. Owner Beth (Janeane Garofalo) has decided she cannot compete with all the specialty camps that are so popular. That is when we learn that former President Ronald Reagan (Michael Showalter) is behind a deal to purchase Camp Firewood. The use of Reagan comes from the original series that showed government agents attacking the camp under the directions of the then-President Reagan.
Janeane Garofalo is one of the most humorless “comedic actresses” in Hollywood. So, with her attached, this is an automatic dog.
From here the story gets more bizarre and disgusting with each passing minute.
The second episode informs the viewer that Ronald Reagan has a vendetta against Camp Firewood because he had some embarrassing moment there when he was a camper in 1921 (Reagan was a 10-year-old in 1921). That vendetta turns Reagan into a domestic terrorist.
Reagan tells H.W. Bush that he will help him get re-elected in his campaign against Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton if Bush helps Reagan destroy Camp Firewood. But Reagan has a threat hiding under the camp.
In the episode, Reagan explains…
“My last year in office, I stole a nuke and I buried it underneath Camp Firewood in a secret bunker that I funded with dark money and I staffed with my own private team of military elites. And I’m gonna blow that shithole camp to smithereens. And I need you to give me the new launch codes.”
Then things get vulgar…
All along Reagan is depicted as a buffoonish frat boy-type picking on the nerdy wimp Bush. That narrative gets old, frankly, and a little irritating. There is a disturbing scene in episode 6, “Rain,” where President Reagan defecates on an architectural model of a potential Ronald Reagan Water-Skiing and Aquatics Training Center after urinating on it. Then, he demands Bush do the same and he acquiesces.
That is far from the first poop jokes used in this disgusting waste of time.
MRC also goes on to describe vulgar sex jokes and other absurd characters in the Netflix series.
But one thing is sure, the whole show was just a childish attack on conservatives, something we’d never see against Democrat presidents or politicians.
